What Goes There

I have finished the rolling chassis of my car all new floors sills rockers etc. Sandblasted basecoat and clearcoat inner chassis. I have finished the running gear. I am now reinstalling the pedals wiring harness etc. I installed new footwells on both sides and heat sheilding but there is an indentation in the footwell right below the brake and clutch pedals with 2 bolt holes in it. I am assuming something goes there for a pedal bumper. My BN6 dosen`t have anything there so I am at a loss. Nothing in any catalog shows anything there. I am considering a piece of 1/4 inch oak plywood with a single layer of fiberglass and a piece of 1/8 rubber glued to it. Does anyone know what goes under the pedals. Thanks Skip

Skip,

I think Brian is correct. Or maybe the holes are there for "who knows what". I have never seen, read about, or heard of any sort of bumper pad as you describe. I guess that you could add such a thing if you desire.

BTW - I see that you have done a tremendous amount of work on the car so far. Are you getting tired yet?

Thanks guys ,no the headlight dimmer is on the left side of the footwell and I marked the holes and spot welded the new nuts for the heat boards already. I used the new boards for marking where the nuts are welded to the foot well. These are 2 1/4 inch holes directly underneath the clutch and brake pedal and there is an oval shaped indentation in the new floorboard directly underneath the pedals. As for tired nah I just finished restoring one antique airplane and am building another biplane so when I get bored working on the planes I work on the Healey. I am heading for the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Healey this fall. I don`t drink, smoke, run around, play golf or do drugs but I would have had lots mmore money if I had than if I had never fallen in love with airplanes and old British Cars. LOL Skip

Skip,
The word "oval" finally rang a bell. The four cylinder cars had an oval shaped cutout covered by a plate which was screwed down to the nuts mounted in the floor. These cars had "through the floor" pedals. Both sides were cut out to accommodate LHD or RHD.

The plate used for the pedals had two smaller holes near it's center for the pedals. The opposite side was just a blanking plate. Since the oval in your floor isn't actually cut out, and the production of the BN6 directly followed the fours, the oval indent is likely just a holdover from the earlier floors or maybe a universal replacement that could be cut out as needed.

Gotcha Dave that is exactly what it looks like. No wonder my other Healey dosen`t have one either. This must be a standard floorboard replacement that they use for all of the cars. I will weld the holes closed finish them off and leave them alone. Thanks a million I would have never figured it out. Skip

Headlight dip switch/ But those holes are to the left of the clutch pedal.

Or are the bolt holes for retaining the original insulation board that went on the outside of the footwell?

Hmmmmm....just thinking out loud here.
