I've got a new harness coming, so all the main wires will be new. Checked through the light sockets, and they look good, with the exception of the rubber bits which will be replaced. Probably will do a new fuel gauge sender, since the gauge was reading only 1/4 full when full and I'll have the tank dropped anyways.

Anything else electrical I should think about? Battery cables look fine, so I was planning on cleaning up the ends and reusing them. Should I do plugs/cap/rotor/points/plug wires while I'm in there? I've got a small budget still, and a few weeks time while the snow melts, so I'm trying to get done what I can to insure a good driving season.

i changed all the under hood electrical items on my midget and will feel much better about it not crapping out this summer......id suggest it if it hasnt already been changed...only spent about $200 including battery, alt, solinoid, starter,etc.....zimmy
 
At this point, I'd offer: If it ain't broke, DRIVE it! Wiring will be new, the rest you'll need to "shake down" anyhow. If you find something marginal, replace it. A friend here (Ex-Pat Brit) calls it "Fix-I-Go". Works fer me.

This is what I am leaning towards, just wanted to get some reassurance. I was working on the engine bay wiring today, and it looks really simple to replace other bits later on. My word, these cars are simple! I love it. The entire electrical system would fit in a moderately small box. It's all just right there. Great for a novice like me.

Peter Egan put it well, describing Bugeye mechanicals as being: "like a child's textbook diagram of How Cars Work."

I've several LBC harnesses in a box. All cleaned and coiled. Never know when you'll need just "this much" of a green-with-red-tracer wire!

Mr. Egan has penned some elegant and profound columns over the years.
 
Doc, your place must look a lot like mine - 'cept I have MG harnesses hanging on the interior wall of a shed - that way I can see what I need...

Couldn't fit, Doc...my engines & their loose pieces & transmissions by themselves fill a 16'x20' building!
