TR2/3/3A What are two holes for on TR3A back shelf upright

On my 1962 TR3A there are two 1/2 inch diameter holes toward the bottom of the upright piece of the back shelf about an inch above floor level.(behind the seats). The holes are on both the drivers side and the passenger side. What are those holes for? Thanks!

Not sure about a post 60000 car, but on a pre 60000 there are 2 holes with cage nuts for the occasional rear seat.
 
Those sound like holes for seatbelts, that is close to the position they put them in at first. I think Andy Mace has a link to a template from an original service bulletin.

Later 3's such as 3Bs I believe were set up a little different - the holes were moved to the rear wheel arch as well as the propshaft cover.
 
Thanks Randy, I sorta thought they might be seat belt related! There was a bolt through one of the holes with a very large washer on the outside back of the shelf. The head of the bolt was broken off but it looked like it might have been an eye bolt, but there was not enough head left to really determine if it was an eye bolt or not. I looked in several of my manuals and Stanpart parts catalog but I couldn't find anything that showed how seat belts are supposed to be mounted in a '62 TR3A.

I had a '58 TR3 back in 1962 and had a "back seat" installed. I think it was bolted on in the area that you describe. The thing looked like a seat, but to call it a "seat" was quite a stretch. It was more like a shelf. Nevertheless, I did carry an teenage passenger back there from time to time, sitting sidewards.
 
On a later style 3A those holes are not needed for the seat, as it just sits on the flat rear deck area. I think it uses the same small pegs as on a TR4 to keep it in position.
 
Since it sounds as though those two holes are not used for the seat belt mounting, where and how do the seat belts mount on a '62 TR3A? Thanks!

They are for seat belt mounting, just not for mounting the "occasional" seat. Hopefully Andy won't mind if I post the TSB he scanned:

I don't think TR3's ever came with original factory seat belts. My 1960 A certainly didn't. I think ST may have issued mounting directions for them at some point although I haven't seen them. Edit: (I see Randall has them above.) T
Add on seat belts were anchored in several different places. Don Elliott had the best I've seen but not easy to do. I think there is a post somewhere in the forum with some nice pics.

TomMull, I did saveral searches and couldn't come up with any pictures of Don Elliott's seat belt mounting method. I'm really curious how he did it. Any clues on how I can find that thread? Thanks!
