What are these people smokin?

Fishing for a sucker. Hey when bait is free, why not? (no cost advertising)

One too many zeros in that price.

OK, good, it's not just me. I saw that one yesterday and thought my eyes where going crossed or something. Looks nice but there isn't nearly the pictures or description to support that price tag, even if it could be worth that!

That one is cool and priced about right. IMHO

The problem with winter -- can't get to the car to drive it or work on it, so my mind wanders.

The $16K Sprite is just another example of lunatic pricing, which seems to be especially common on Craigslist. Here's another example. This Triumph Herald, while nice looking, was listed for about a year at $18K. At least the price is dropping, though. I suspect that the asking price and the car's value will intersect in about five years.

If these sellers are so convinced their cars are worth this much, then why don't they take them to auction....they know they aren't worth this and they would be picked apart at any auction. I agree, they are looking for a sucker.

Take a look at a $16K engine bay! You should see it in the hi-res photos he sent. It's atrocious!

The other thing these guys fail to notice, as impossible as it seems, is that we're in a RECESSION. In a recession, there aren't many people around with tons of money to spend, and cars that are overpriced because they're "special" simply don't sell.

Do a search on ebay for completed auctions for any big-ticket car--say, a Healey 3000. You'll see that maybe one high-dollar car a month sells. Very few actually sell at all; the ones that do sell are mostly project cars, lower-end ones, and cars that are bargain priced. That's what people can afford.

The level of psychological denial in this business is really astonishing.

I would think anyone who went to sell something like this would do some homework. It doesn't take long to get a feel for the market. I have to believe outlandish prices like this are completely intentional and sucker fishing and they are not in a hurry to sell or even really interested in selling. I suppose some owners are delusional and think their car is "special", maybe more than I'm willing to admit.

No one's Midget is that special.

Except mine.

Mine is very special; so special I can't even tell you why...it's just that special.
