TR4/4A What are these holes? revisited

You can see the 4 holes on the right side of the picture (located on drivers side ahead of the tank and to the right of the rear axle hump)
There are 4 more on the other side. You can see one hole, the other three are covered by some kind of foam sealer.
Any ideas?
 
Looks like where a simple hoop type roll bar might have been mounted.
 
Yeah. That was my guess too. Not much protection. Maybe it was reinforced under the body with a plate or something.

I am presently working on a TR3 that was rolled and had a rollbar that was apparently just mounted to the body. I guess if one looks at the potential damage that could have been done in such a situtation the car came out of it fairly well. But it is quite evident that the rollbar was only mounted to the body and not down to the frame. The driver's side rear floor was pushed down about one inch while the passenger side was pulled up about the same.
