What are the pros and cons for full synthetic oil in a 948cc engine

I contacted Castrol andthey mentioned an oil of theirs that they thought would protect an older engine-- Castrol EDGE 5W-50. It is a full synthetic oilthat has high ZDDP -- the only Castrol oil with high ZDDP. They said it has a boosted level of ZDDP (1250 ppm) to help protect flat tappet cam engines inclassic cars. Castrol consumer relations went on to say, it has excellent cold temperature properties, and has a high temperatureviscosity (SAE 50) "that is suitable for use in many classic car applications."
I havehad such great luck with full synthetic oil in newer cars (especially Mobil 1) thatI wonder what you folks know about what is bad about synthetic oil in a Bugeye?

Only bad thing that I can think of with a 948 and synthetic is the cost of replacing what leak's out!:highly_amused:

Have seen comments by folks that is too slippery for our engines. Stay full Dino VR-1 Racing Oil or Brad Penn 20w50 . Both have high zdp levels flat tapett engines need.

To my flimsy way of thinking, the only "con" (which would apply to all cars) is that synthetic is expensive... and despite claims that it will last SO long, it will surely get dirty long before that. :rolleye:

Forget about it getting dirty- 5 weight won't stay in the engine for 5000 miles (long enough to get dirty) and as Kurt said it will get pretty expensive to keep adding it when it leaks out

Hadn't thought about that... the leak factor! :p
