What are the differences in Midget MK2 and MK3 top

Hello,

I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a 65' MKII Midget that I'm restoring. Back in 2007, I ordered a new top from Prestige Auto Trim over in England. I purchased the Mohair deluxe fabric, red in color, top for the mk2. Long story short, only today the top was beginning to be fit by a very experienced installer here in town that came very highly recommended, and apparently the top is too narrow where it is to fit at the header rail. I was told it is about 1 1/2 inch too narrow at that point. And they looked at a supplier they use to have tops made, and they show in their catalogs that the MK2 top may have a different cut there than the MK3, and it makes me wonder what Mark midget this top might fit? I was hoping to see if anyone here would know about the widths at that point in the top, and if I was just sent the wrong one by accident. I have just today contacted Prestige by email, and won't hear back from them for a day or two from my past experiences, so I am asking for any help anyone might have, thanks

Good luck, I couldn't get much help from them after my 12 month warranty expired.

i'm starting to understand that although my car was manufactured in the summer of 65', it really falls into the category of what most part catalogs list as a 64' year, there is a lot of discrepancy in the years and what marks they are listed with. The whole older sliding window vs the windup windows and what years and marks those cars fall into in the world of buying new parts and in this case of having a new top made. Prestige has MG Midget Mk1 1961-64 , MG Midget Mk2 1965-66
Midget's that have wind up side windows. Will my car is a 65, that has wind up windows but needs the MK1 version to fit correctly is what i'm determining.

I believe that the difference has to do with fold down versus fold up frame - I am not aware of any square bodied Midget being wider than another - or to put it another ways as far as I know windshields are interchangeable.

Hoods for vehicles prior to Jan 64 will not fit on a MK II Midget.

I know that, but is the reason length? or width? or both?

Shape in general. Rear window area is steeper than older hoods. Different frames. Window opening dimensions for roll ups different than for slides
