What a great day! Univeristy Motors Summer party

Here is my car today at the UM Summer party reunion. What a show! Had to be over 400 MGs. Lots of beautful MGs. I could hardly contain myself. I talked to so many nice owners with sweet cars. MGA Twin cam was the featured car. Lots of pre wars, tons and tons of Bs. There were 22 1980 LEs alone, one for sale with around 600 miles for $16k. I even got some compliments on my 69 B.

I told my wife I didn't care if we broke down on the way home as long as we didn't have any problems on the way there. And I only had one rear tire blow out on the way home. Good thing the spare held air. 250ish mile round trip. WHAT A GREAT DAY!

Wolfeman, did you get to do laps at Grattan this year? I haven't been to one of John's Summer Parties in awhile, but I remember once about ten years ago the the MG's were three abreast for the entire 2 miles of the circuit! I was absolutely impressed, as I had never seen that many MG's in a gaggle, ever!!
I'm glad it was a good outing. I'm about 25 miles south of you.

According to John, there were about 500 cars on the field on Saturday. The weather was terrific; 75 degrees and sunny.

Myself, I had no mechanical problems, and the drive home was great (got some rain on the way up).

I credit (blame?) this gathering for turning me on to MGs. I used to live in an apartment complex behind the Hilton in Kentwood where many participants stayed. On the way home from work (selling cars over on Division St.), I saw those beautiful little cars and wondered what the heck they all were. I found out and have been smitten ever since. Unfortunately, I moved away, but I shall return...someday.

It was the 14th annual summer party, August 1990, and the featured car was the 1974 1/2 MGB. It was truly a memorable day, I have never seen so many MGB's, and yes driving around the track was great fun. Towards the end we were even allowed to speed up a bit. BTW I took 6th place with a 1975 MGB considering the numbers of MGB's I cherish the ribbon. click above for a photo of the MGB, and if you want it's for sale in this forums classifieds.

Wolfeman, we brought our 69 as well, and it appears that it's the 5th one to the right, with just the windshield visible; I recognize our location and can make out our British flag tucked into side vent window... What a coincidence!

I had a entry in the photo contest this year and picked up first prize. Our 69 is a driver so we were surprised (shocked really) that it got a ribbon at all!

Anyone know what happened to the B that broke down on the race track during the laps? We were a few cars behind when we heard a very loud, sharp pop, like a gun shot, saw a sunstantial puff of smoke come out of the exhaust and off onto the grass he went.
