What a Difference!!

Just finished rebuilding and polishing the carbs from the 61` MGA and WOW! what a difference it made! The car ran OK before which was surprising because of the wear found on the carbs but now it runs like a brand new car. This is the second set of SU's we've rebuilt in a month and it's alot of work(took us about 3 days for each set, including polishing) but it's definatly worth it.

Good for you! Rebuilding SU's is not too difficult and defintly rewarding. I'm always amazed at their simplicity. I hear alot of guys dog SU's and talk about the great results they get from a new weber. But if yoiu consider the SU's are 30+ years old and the weber is brand new, no sh!t!!! They are probably just worn out. I think SU's just 'look right' in a British car. And you really can't beat their performance.

I completely agree...I've polished the SU's to a mirror shine and they look more like a peice of art than they do a carburator...I am amazed at the use of different metals(especially on the older MGTC SU's wich use more copper and brass). I think properly tuned SU's are just as good if not better than webers, plus the originality factor. We also rebiult the weber on the MGB LE a few months ago because it was leaking, in the process we discovered that it was never installed properly by the P.O(missing one of the bolts that hold it to the manifold) once that was replaced it ran alot better.

Both of the 78` MGB's are running the original stromburg carb which all of people put down.....I haven't had any trouble with it at all so I am not gunna touch it....if it gives me trouble I'll probably convert to SU's.
