Whale bits everywhere...

I was at CERT training today, which is an emergency response thingy, and to emphasis the need for a planning they showed us this news story from the 70's about an unprepared community, a few sticks of dynamite, and a dead whale. Enjoy. I saw the video at the training, so I don't swear to the quality of this one.

I live in Portland and Paul Linnman is definitely one of the foremost news anchors in our great city. Although I had heard of the Whale Blasting ever since I was a kid, I had never actually seen the footage. I have to admit as an Oregonian, that's pretty darn funny!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

I have a slightly better quality version of it if anyone is interested. Not a lot better but 11 megs in size.

Along with a lot other private aircraft, my Aeronca was used for coastal patrol in the eastern US during WW II.
Mostly these "CAP" pilots would look for German subs. If they had any bombs or light ordinance on board, they would hand-drop these in an effort to disable the enemy subs.
Unfortunately, whales look a lot like subs...the story is these guys sunk several whales!
