TR2/3/3A Wetliner in a engine stand, how?

As a novice in wet liner engines I need some advice.
I ‘am going to mount the engine on an engine stand. I normally use the bolts for the gearbox cover to secure the engine, but In this case it will only be by just four UNC 5/16”, will that hold the engine?
Any other suggesting’s, how have you done it?
Or will I have to struggle with the engine on the bench??
 
Should be fine. I've had one hanging like that for more decades than I care to count and it's still there. A single grade 2 (low carbon steel) 5/16NC bolt has a proof load close to 3000 pounds, so you've got lots of safety margin. If you want more margin, get grade 8 bolts (medium carbon, hardened and tempered, over 6000 pounds each).
 
Seems like it shouldn't be enough, but the four 5/16" bolts will be just fine. I did my engine on an engine stand using the 5/16" bolts. I had the whole engine on there, head and all. Use grade 5 or 8.

Yeah, I used grade 8 just to be safe but never had an issue...I left the flywheel on this one and just used washers for spacers ...

My first rebuild I used an engine mount like in the pic and propped the nose for insurance. For the TR2, the engine has been rebuilt and sitting on the stand for over 2 years...I was going to prop that engine, but never got around to it!?! I was always more worried about the block casting outside of the starter flange more than the strength of the bolts.

When lifting a motor and tranny, I would have no problem locking the chain with a single 5/16" bolt, so I wouldn't ever worry about 4 holding just the motor.
