Decided to take a day off from working on the 6 and go so for a ride. So the wife and took off for a 4 hour drive. It was a beautiful day here in NY and we had the top down. Had a great time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I actually took a break from cars and played golf today. It was nice. Weather was great. Missed the car. Came back and polished the chrome. Won't happen again.

Great day for you Jerry.
What year is your TR6?

Is a 4 hour ride in a TR6 ,without breaking down,
a common trip or an exceptional voyage?

Just curious,

dale

Mine is a 73 TR6. So far a 4 hour ride w/o problems is common trip. Never broke down yet(knocking on wooden dash). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Dale, I drove my highly modified TR6 non-stop to Dallas in July (107 degrees) at an average speed of 75mph. Narry a burp. Only stopped for gas and a What-A-Burger.

I autocrossed her three times, I did a Time-Distance-Speed rally and a gymkanna and drove her home. Nothing was out of adjustment, except my back.

Bill

Oh, and it was an 8 hour drive....

Dale, we ran our TR6's alog with over 40 other British cars last weekend over 100 miles per day in rally style cruises and only one car broke down with a generator problem. He still made the barbeque Sat night and the show the next day. You'll be there soon.

Dale, once the bugs are worked from DPO's, neglect etc... TR's can be very reliable machines. You'll find out soon enough. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Several years ago, I did the parade lap in my TR3A at MidOhio race track during the Vintage Races. This was about 5 miles of standing still. Sort of like a day at Disney World. I was surrounded by a lot of old British iron, including several T-series MG's. After what seemed like an hour on the hot tarmac, the only two cars that had pulled over and couldn't continue on were Marque of the Year Corvettes.
Gotta love it!

A number of years ago...... while out driving around my wife and I came across Road America track. It was just before the june sprints. I had no idea of wheree we were or how to get there, but there it was. We pulled into the gate with our 58 TR3 and asked if we could tour the track. Much to our suprise they said "sure, go ahead." It was so cool. We turned the first lap pretty cool, and then two more at a pretty good clip. We were in the tracks of Sterling Moss and Jimmy Clark. What an awesome day. Nothing broke and we drove home with the biggest grins that you could imagion. But, that was in my first life. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dale,
I bought my '71 TR6 4 years ago and since that time I have put about 20k miles on it. It has never left me stranded. Initially a cracked rotor left me temporarily stranded, but the first time I was able to "repair" it, and the second time I had the replacement part so I just swapped it out and that was that. Also, occasionally the "doesn't-want-to-start-again-after-stopping-on-a-hot-day" demon rears its head, but with a good battery, that is always just a temporary glitch and sooner or later it'll start up again. I agree with Shawn and Bill and Jerry in saying that they have the potential to be very robust and reliable. I've given more jump starts in it than I have received!

I planned on driving both my MGA and the Jag this weekend as neither one has moved in about a month(more for the MGA)...Today I did the jag, so tommorrow the wife and I will go for an MGA cruise in the fall colors, hopefully get some nice pics of the A's together out in the country.

Tinster
once she is running well, just keep up the maintenance and servicing and she will perform well. It's just unfortunate that you were sold a poorly maintained car.
I've done trips upto 350km each way with no problems.
Regards
Craig

I've been commuting in my six for the past year with no breakdowns. (hope I'm not jinxing myself)

These are real vehicles!

Tinster, you'll be surprised how capable these cars are!
One of our members, Don Elliott, regularly uses his TR3a for trips of 1,000 miles or more, and I know some Canadian cars which have been driven to Florida and back.

I think Jerry was explaining the pleasure of the trip rather than expressing surprise at completing the trip!
Simon.

Well my wifes MGA has gone the last 6 months every day.....over 2000 miles in total....only regular maintence.
