Hi All,
Popped a welsh plug this morning ordered new brass plugs 1 5/8 inches but will be some time before I get them, I have some steel ones so
I am going to use these. Having never changed a welsh plug on a B I was going to first clean up the engine hole then apply JB weld to the seat and then using two hammers one on the plug and tap with the other to flatten the plug out to give a tight fit your comments would be appreciated
Regards
Aussie Chris

I might use something less permanent than JB weld - especially of you are going to replace them with brass - maybe permatex?

Permatex "Aviation Form-A-Gasket" and NEVER hit a hammer with another hammer!! Know a guy who lost an eye doing that. Use a "suitable" drift instead.

Hi Doc,
Can only get steel 1 .5/8 inch dome Welch plugs brass dome ones are scarce as hens teeth.
I am going to use Permatex A1 sealant to seal them in could I use this as a cover over the
entire plug to stop corrosion ?
Again thanks for your input
Regards
Chris

Steel should be fine. If they're anything like what we've got over here, they're thick (.350") too. Just paint 'em after they're seated & sealed in place.

Can't hurt, but it is highly unlikely the Doorman replacements will ever need to be renewed. And they will fit in the glovebox! 😉

FYI, the inventor didn't like leeks and wasn't Welsh.

Those plugs were invented by the Welch Car Co.
