Update on the Dodge Challenger front.

Link: Chrysler LLC Introduces Entire 2009 Dodg...ional Auto Show

A couple of days ago Dodge announced that they’re expanding on the New Challenger line up. Whereas only a few got usually the opportunity own some of the first SRT8s. Of course that usually meant that these prospective buyers having to pony up a heck of a lot to meet the huge dealer mark-up for the right (privilege) to be the fist kid on your block to own one of the All NEW “Godzilla” SRT8 Challenger’s with the 6.1L HEMI that pumped out something like 425hp & 410 lb-ft of Torque and should rocket it to 60 in under 5 seconds according to Dodge.

Nice car but the first run of these only came with the 6-speed auto box to put the power down. The good news is the pistol grip 6-speed will now be available on the SRT8. An obvious marketing ploy to build hype, but what the hey – I’m a patient man and it looks like that tolerance has paid off.

The rest of the new Challenger line up will include the Base model SE and the R/T.

The SE Priced in the $20's will (as I suspected) have Dodge’s 3.5L V6 with about 250 hp & 250 Torque but only comes with a 4-speed Auto box. Anybody who’s ever owned or driven a base Charger will find nothing new here under the shorter body & flowing good looks.

The R/T will have the 5.1L HEMI under the hood with 370 hp and 390 lb-ft of Torque and like it’s SRT8 sibling it too will have the optional 6-Speen (Pistol Grip) transmission. Dodge says this will do Zero to 60 in under 6 seconds.

Personally I love the SRT8 I think it’s a bit over the top for me and the base SE is sweet in it’s own right I think I’d probably chose the R/T and will be scheduling a test drive as soon as they start hitting the local dealerships.

Oh & whatever you do - make mine Black!

That's one ugly car, IMHO.

Seem that if one liked the original Challengers, they'd probably like this one. They got the retro look down fairly well.

We'll see if they sell. I wonder . . .

Well enough folks clamored to have Dodge mak'em that they finally started makin’em. In fact as I pointed out above - enough so, that folks are still fighting over and willing to pay whatever it takes to get their hands on the limited number of SRT8s during the introductory production run.

An yes, I loved the 70 Challenger when it first came out. But then I was 11 at the time ogling over just about anything with an big engine and a wild paint job. :smirk:

Will they offer Sub-lime or Panther-Pink or Plum-Crazy.....

That would be cool.

But looking over Dodge's "Build Your Car" area of their web site - the colors offered are pretty normal. Black, White, Red(2 types), Blue & Silver.

Edit: I double checked and they do offer HEMI Orange for the R/T but not on the base SE.

More over the SRT8 will only come in three colors; RED, Silver and Black.
