Welding is fun!

I played hookey from work today to finally install my Pacesetter headers and semi-custom exhaust system. I took her for a test ride tonight at roughly 11:45 pm. (Sorry neighbors) And everything seemed to be working fine until it started making all kinds of horrible racket. It sounded like a weld busted or the down pipe slipped off the collector. Turns out I forgot to tighten my O2 bung plug. It rattled its way out while on my test drive. Too bad my teenaged neighbor could not have heard. He is really impressed by loud cars.

If you promise not to make fun of my ugly welds, I'll post some pictures up tomorrow.

Or in this case, the spatter calling the bubble black... or something to that effect.

As promised, her is a pic.

I relocated the cat to the back. It sits just in front of the axle. It has lots of breathing room there and hopefully it won't bottom out. The "Monza" muffler and stainless pipe are gifts from the previous owner.

As long as your emissions laws aren't to strict you're fine.
The cat uses the engine heat to do it's work, so the further from the engine it is the harder the time it has to get to operating temp (600 to 700 deg. F.) And without the long "cooldown" stretch to the muffler, once the cat gets to temp, the hotter the gasses coming into the muffler, possibly shortening it's lifespan.
My guess would be on the side of never reaching full temp.
Sorry, diden't mean to be negative. Looks like a decent job done on the fab though.

Yeah, I was worried about that too.

Emission laws are not very strict in Texas. I mainly put the cat in to sooth my own guilt. Soon, the car will be fuel injected thus making it one of the cleanest burning Midgets ever.

If it seems I am not able to get my cat up to temp, I may wrap the pipe all the way to the cat. This will also help keep the cab cooler in summer.

Also, if the muffler rusts out sooner than normal, so be it. It's a piece of crap anyway.

Thanks for the advise though.

As long as it's been thought out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
Sounds like it's gonna be a cool ride by the time you're done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
