Weird indicators on BN1

Hi
Having just replaced the fuel tank (but kept the old sender unit) my indicators are playing up on my BN1
With side lights / headlights off then when right indicator is on the right bulbs flash brightly and left bulbs flash dimly at the same time. With left indicator the opposite happens ie left flashes brightly and right dimly flashes. At the same time the fuel gauge needle waves in time to the flashing - presumably some sort of short circuit through the fuel gauge?
With the sides or main beam on the indicator lights do not flash at all but the solenoid still click to select left or right and the front bulbs noticeably brighten on the side the indicator is selected.
Any clues to get to the bottom of this one greatly appreciated

Many thanks
Ian

It gets better
went down to the Goodwood Revival today and noticed on the way home that with lights on the ignition switch doesn't turn the engine off !!!

Sure sounds like the horn wire inside the stator tube has shorted to one (or more) of the turn signal wires.

Check to see if the turn signal wiring has rubbed around the front tires; if it shorts to ground there, it'll melt the insullation in various parts of the harness, including inside the steering column conduit.

Lights are fused&battery powered constant, ign is obviously key, both run through fuse block on firewall. I would look at that block. In the past, when I misplaced keys, I bridged the two with the fuse(fits right in between the two fuses),and hit the starter button & off you go. Makes sense IMO that the back-feed would occur there.blinkers are keyed or 50 pwr. cheers Genos2
