hey all

today i took the Mgb to work everything worked ok
but when i started the car after work the pass side horn came on
so i pulled a wire off the horn so i could get home. so im putting along and i hit the brakes the tach and oil pressure gauges die and my buddy behind me tellls me i have no brake light after a few minutes the tach and oil pressure gauge come back only to die when i hit the brake peddle. after dinner tonight i wen to the garage cleaned the brake light switch on the peddle box with contact cleaner ( i removed the peddlebox and did the inside switch of the switch too) cleaned all the connections for the horns , went under the dash and cleaned the connection for the turn signal stalk and my turn signals worked on the way home they dont now i DO have tail lights but if i hit the brake peddle still nothing

help PLEASE!!!

Raymond, check your Grounds - engine to frame (most important)and all of the grounds to bulbs etc. If the engine to frame ground is bad the curent might be going through your horn. If the engine to frame ground is not good it can cause a lot of problems. Mr Lucas can bite you in the butt anytime, anyplace and Murphy is his best friend.
That's my 2cents.

And disconnect the battery, ohm the purple/black wire to that horn and see if there's continuity to ground... if so, you have something in the horn ground circuit malfunctioning. Horn push or the assembly at the t-sig/lighting switch on the column. The 'short' is still there whether you pull the wire off the horn or not. I wouild leave the battery disconnected until I found the problem, also.

thanks doc

i dont have access to an OHM meter what i have done is check the engine to frame ground its good i have checked, cleaned and double checked the battery ground cleaned the fuse box i only have two fuses one at the top and one at the bottom the horn is no longer stuck on (good) but i still dont have brake lights or turn signals and now the horn doesnt work at all
if the car is running and i touch the brakes the tach dies but comes back a short while later i did replace the master a few weeks ago but i didnt disconnect the brake light switch i just moved the peddle box cover out of the way

any more ideas?
