On Saturday, I led a group of 14 cars from our area British car club on a 100 mile round trip up the southern Shenandoah Valley from Roanoke, VA to Lexington, VA and back. The weather was ideal for the journey. We had two MGs, three Jaguars, three Austin Healeys, two Rolls Royces, two Minis, a Morgan and my 'barn find' 84 280i.
It was the first time the 280i had been driven that far since the restoration work was finished on it and it performed flawlessly. We were given on-street parking in historic Lexington and the cars got plenty of attention as locals and shoppers stopped by to check them out. The local newspaper editor (an old friend of mine) also came by and sent a photographer to chronicle the visit.
Driving the 280i on the journey gave me great piece of mind that after all the work I've had done to it, that I can get in it and go for a nice long drive and know that it'll do beautifully, which it did. Of course, I had to answer all the normal questions about TVR but everyone seemed to really like the car. Now, I'm looking forward to other such drives, including the one down to Virginia International Raceway in two weeks for the annual Gold Cup Vintage Races. Hope to see some of you there with your TVRs.
