Giday guys...

MGB Dizzy advance/retard video 1

MGB Dizzy advance/retard video 2

We finally Figured out what was wrong with my ignition system, we had a feeling that the dizzy cap was rather worn and also that the rotor button was TOTALLY WRONG, with a gap of around almost 1cm from button - dizzy cap points, the spark had a fair distance to jump.
Check this out...

The black rotor button was the one that was in there, see how much different it is to the other two.
The middle one is a genuine MG one and the top on is a REPCO cheapie.

My dads brother (my uncle was down from melb) - just like me, and we had a bit of a chat about the engine rebuild, took some shots of our white board discussion.

This was us checking the resistance of the high resistance leads currently on my B. The spark from the coil to the initial lead is GREAT, but once it goes through the "modern" high resistance leads (good for radio interference) it drops RIGHT OFF!

Heres us checking the resistance of the leads

Cheers.

IIRC, the 25D and the 45D distributors take different rotors. Possibly someone entered the wrong year in the computer when filling the order.

The "white board" stuff was kinda intense, made my brain hurt! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif
My discussions with my dad go like...."Son... this is the way to do it" and thats about it!

LOL, i can relate to that from my step father :p

Learning how all these bits n pieces come together and make a engine work is absoltely facinating. I'm havin a ball n learning HEAPS!

Ive got alot of mates that own high performance cars that drag race n stuff, but wouldnt have the slightest idea of how the internals ACTUALLY work. Its really funny coz i can questions which they dont have a clue about. :p

All they seem to know is the
*wattage of they'r amps
*how many cylinders they have and
*what pound boost they are running

Happy learning.

Expect much MUCH more pics/videos for the rebuild.

Cheers

Looks like a classic case of "overtech" from here, in that MY Old Fella would tell me: "Go for the 'stupid stuff' FIRST!" His council turns out to be truth in most instances.

Don't mis-stand under me: I am more guilty of it than most. Been a wrench for decades and will STILL want to over diagnose problems. The old saw about swamp+gators=forgotten objective.

These li'l machines will run even if they're HALF right... just not very well then.
