Weber DGV on a Bugeye

Does anyone have any experience with getting a stock Bugeye to run with a Weber DGV type carb?

I can get it to idle fine, but it stutters when I drive it. I'm sure it's a jetting problem, but I don't know where to start.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Johnny

I haven't seen much advice yet, so I'll give it a shot first.

Stuttering when driving is more probably ignition related than mixture related. Unless the carb is very rich or very lean at driving speeds. Rich condition is easily seen by black spark plugs. Lean is more difficult to see, except the plugs are very white on the electrode insulator. Normal plugs (tan) will imply the mixture is good enough. (You have to drive it a bit to get the plugs to show the right colour.) Therefore ignition problems.

John, there are a few topics devoted to the DGV stumbling. Offhand I think the two major culprits have been; hidden air leaks at the manifold-to-head joint, and incorrect jetting. That's assuming that the timing and ignition are known to be good.

I'll see if I can find the link, but in the meantime you may want to try the search function, which works surprisingly well!

Not too much in the way of detail given........

did it ever run well?

new acquisition?

new carb on a motor that ran ok?

First thing to do MIGHT bee.....check fuel pressure.
2nd......check timing and also run the motor up with the light attached.....see what light pattern looks like.....
3rdlie..........check the plugs......
4th...........coil any good?
oh....and check battery voltage with motor running and also at the coil.

Most DGV Carbs come stock with jetting related to a 1500cc or so engine. (Many of them were intended for the Cortina) So likely you are running too rich and may benifit from stepping down a notch or two
