Weber 45 MCHH

So what's the scoop on the Weber 45 MCHH? Are they new on the market? Looks interesting and reasonably priced.

Any body try them yet?

they are MG carbs.
Weber used the normal DCOE housing but only one barrel works, the other oen is removed...

Were made from about 1975 onwards
 
The photos don't look like a DCOE with only 1 barrel. Looks to skinny
 
Here's some info from the Weber site.

One of the guys in our club works at a NAPA dealer and is selling them. He brought one in to a meeting a couple of months ago. It looks like a DCOE with one of the barrels (chokes) lopped off. They will basically replace a 1.75" SU or Stromberg. In the case of a dual carb setup, you would need two of them.

My personal take on SU's, Strombergs and Webers, is that if I had my choice for a stock or mildly modified engine, I'd stick with SU's...and if I had a TR6, I'd have three SU's on it and that would be enough fuel/air to support as much engine mods as I could stand without having a completly intractable car.
 
From the photo it looks like a DCOE body with the barrel in the middle.
 
SU's are a very capable carb. If I were going to make any modifications to an engine whatsoever, I would replace strombergs with a SU's. Mildly modified 1 3/4" carbs will and have supported 4cyl MG race motors with 200+hp (well depending on whose dyno you use /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif ). They are also great on a "hot" street motor. A triple H6 set-up should be good for 290hp or so, all the while producing a ton of torque.

Exactly! Just like any carb, set up correctly, they'll be great on the street.

Yeah, some EXTREMELY optimistic dynos.
 
Optimistic, sure.. but it's not far off

Also from some old carb literature, H(S)6's are quoted to be able to support aprox. 90hp with each carb.

Back to the 45MCHH though, I also heard it was used/possibly originally produced for use on BIG V-Twins for the Harley crowd. Like this
 
Yes, that was mentioned by the guy in our club who is selling those carbs. Funny thing, years ago a very popular replacement carb for the Harley crowd were the SU's. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
