Watkins Glen-Lime Rock

Busy!

I am going to ~Watkins Glen~ on Friday afternoon. We'll be racing the #11 Spridget at the VRG vintage event on Saturday (Oct 20) and the EMRA enduro on Sunday (Oct 21). I am the architect of this "club sharing" event so I hope it works out (WG does not normally allow shared weekends between clubs, so the Glen managment took a lot of convincing). I'm not sure if this will work for our club finacially. The rental cost is huge and WG has more rules than Carter has Little Liver Pills...we'll see if we want to do this again in '08. I have my doubts.

The week after, we'll be at ~Lime Rock~ . I'll be bring the #909 Twin Cam Escort to run sprint races and the One-Hour enduro. "Inch tools" go back in the garage and I load up with metric tools. Also, I need to switch the harnesses and transponder from the Spridget back to the Escort. This will be the second outing of the Escort and I've made some changes such as more negative front camber, a relocated fuel pump pickup and better engine mount. Lime Rock is max 85 dB (at 100'), so I spent some time adding a muffler too.

Then a three week break and we'll run the Four-Hour Twilight enduro at the newly re-paved ~Summit Point~ . If the Escort works well at LR, we'll use that. If not, we'll use one of the Spridgets.

Eh? Tell me more!

John,
Here
There are more pictures on page 6 of that thread.

A Spec Miata turned a 1.26.7 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif this past weekend on the old surface. The previous track record was in the low 28's. The track is REALLY fast now.

Nial,

The TR4 that was at the EMRA SP race last year will be at Watkins Glen this upcoming weekend.

Guys:

Good to have that TR at Watkins Glen...the more Brit roadsters, the better /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

We've heard that the new surface is smooth and great...some sort of polymer/mix that's more sticky than regular asphalt.

Also: Apparently, Summit is still a bit dusty from some landscaping that was done at the same time. One of our guys (Entropy Racing) was there and was worried about all the dust for our night event. I just called Maria at SP and asked that they have a water truck available just in case. As always, she was very agreeable and will have a water truck standing by.....I love working with the folks at Summit, especially after my dealings with the crew at Watkins Glen last week. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Thanks, Monkeywrench!

Man, that sounds like great fun! I need to get me a little vintage Mini Cooper. If you know of any good ones for sale - I would appreciate a heads-up!
