water pump

Country flag

I recall some discussion about water pumps from "country" that failed a lot. I that correct? I cannot find it in the archives. My new water pump arrived today and it has Country molded into the casting. It is a more expensive unit than the one Moss sells. Should I send it back or chance it?

Well TH, Parts coming out of country boxes have garnered a bad reputation but considering the warranty and the time of year you might just go ahead and install it in the car.-Fwiw--Keoke

Could that actually be 'County' brand? County products seem to be hit-or-miss--I've heard some not-so-good things about their engine bearings and I think others on this forum have complained about the fit of their WPs.

I bought a WP from Moss a few years ago, and it's a County. It looks OK, and if I need to I will install it (if it fits).

Years back, 5-6? when I was restoring, I replaced the water pump. I received a pump from Moss that I remember saying something like country/county stamped on it. Also, it may have been a little bigger than original. It worked for two weeks. (Back then, I thought I'm working on this area, why not replace what looks like the old original pump with a new one from Moss. I no longer think that way when it comes to replacing original equipment.) I put the original back in and it's been working fine. As I said, that was years ago. Maybe country/county has improved the reproduction. Hey Richard, maybe you got the one I returned. Does it have hammer marks and blood stains on it from my one and only moment of frustration? Two weeks?

Good luck.

Roger, had you done a "run-in" before installation? The fiber seal needs to be turned dry for about a minute before mounting to get a flat seal. This causes premature failure if not done. This one came from BCS who claim it is better than the one Moss sells (and more expensive) and both claim they are from England.

bob, if its "county" made in india they had/have big problems with pistons and oil pumps as well, wouldnt shock me to hear they went tu.

both claim they are from England

Yep by way of India---Keoke--

:savewave: Hi Richard, not sure, it was a while ago. But good to note that to others who read this post.
