Water Pump rebuild

Taking Reid's caution, I thought I would start a new thread and redirect the direction of the previous exchanges.

Though I can't be sure, I think that I may have the original water pump on my car - it sat for many moons! If I were to have this pump rebuilt rather than going with a new or rebuilt from a supplier what should I look for from a rebuilder? Who does this kind of thing? What direction if any should I provide the rebuilder to minimize the potential for problems?

Thanks

Seriously, Lin I really do not know. My suggestion is to go with a new pump and ask who the producer is. There was a re builder advertising on E-Bay whom I talked too sometime ago he appeared knowledgeable and used uprated seals. However, the cost of a rebuild rivaled that of a new pump and I just dropped the Idea entirely and I do not have him in my files, I just took a quick look. You might give Inan at Healey Surgeons a call and see if they stock a good component as they use their parts in their restorations. Another good source but you need to ask the source of the part is North West British parts. This is particularly true if that part is on special when you call. Here is a guy with a lot of experience rebuilding pumps; "Jim Taylor 918-333-3444"---Fwiw---Keoke

Lin--

Bill Bolton sells rebuilt pumps on an exchange basis using modern seals.

Lin,

I would suggest replacing with a new unit but hang onto the core for later rebuild and trunk ballast -- er as a spare.

A spare water pump is one of the things that I carry with me on long trips.
