Newbe questions.....I need to replace the water pump. Do i just order the pump and gasket? do i need anything else? Also what do I use to remove the bolt in the engine to drain the coolant. size etc...
 
I'm pretty sure you have to remove the radiator to replace the pump, so it might be prudent to go ahead and get all new hoses/clamps while you are at it.
 
I did this 3 weeks ago. You MUST remove the rad.
To drain the coolant just undo the lower rad hose and point it at a dish pan (3 or 4 inches deep) then dispose of the old coolant. As Trevor says if the hoses and clamps look suspect order them as well. When you order a new pump the gasket comes with it.
Be VERY careful when you remove the fanbelt pulley from the water pump it is white metal and light tapping with a rubber mallet will get it off. Whule the rad is out is is a good time to lube the rack (fitting is under the lower rad hose and hard to get at with rad in place) and check the steering column at the rack (lots ofroom to do this job now).

WHen you refill with coolant, fill from the top rad hose, and later into the overflow catch can.

Good luck it should take 1 to 1.5 hrs (allowing for permatex gasket goo set up time)
 
I also think the radiator needs to come out.

Bolt in the engine to drain coolent???? Just take the bottom radiator hose off.

Did mine this year - Woodie is 100% correct. The bolt thing in a RHD 1500 is under the inlet manifold and it is a good idea with your radiator out just to remove this bolt and do a high pressure back flush

Get the little 1/2" by-pass hose replaced, too. Just stock heater will do better than the ribbed, prone-to-leak OE version.

The bolt on the engine, on my car, is a tap(Faucet thingy). It is turned by the handle to drain the engine. If a bolt is there instead than Moss or VB sells new ones if you wish for about $25.

When I ordered a pump from VB they included the gasket. I wish they told you, while the cost is not great you end up with extra parts. Same with the steering arms they come with the gaitors.

Why should they tell you?? Then they would miss the opportunity to sell some more parts that no one is going to return. :laugh:

It is always good to have a spare. Then a few years from now you can spend 5 hours looking for where you put it for safe keeping. Then after you spend 20 minutes cutting a new one you'll find the spare while putting away the gasket stock.
