water pump question

my water pump seems to be weeping around where it attaches to the engine - I know I put gasket sealer there - should I remove, regasket & replace?

temperature doesn't seem to be a problem so I presume it is working OK

Are you sure it is not weeping out of the weep hole?

You may as well change the gasket to alleviate the leak. You might also consider replacing the thermostat depending, of course, on how long it's been since it was installed.

Check the amount of play (i.e., looseness) in the pulley. Ideally, there should be very little to no play in it.

could be but it seems like a lot of fluid - and thermostat is brand new

will check for play

Put a small mirror up under the pump at the pulley to check for a "trail" from the weep hole. It'll save you a lot of time replacing the gasket for no reason.
