MGB-GT Water Pump Nose Length

I am rebuilding a 1500CC engine that is in my 1959 Nash Metropolitan. I have purchased a water pump which was listed for a 1962 to 1964 MGB from Victory British. When I put the pump on the engine the pulley does not line up with the crankshaft pulley, it is about 1/4" forward of where it should be. I thought that the water pumps from all 1500 engines put in many vehicles would be interchangeable. Were there different length water pumps? If so, does anyone know which application wouls fit mine other than getting it from a Metropolitan specific dealer?

Thanks for your help

Sir,
Thank you for your response. I thought I would get additional responses with further information but the information you gave me has helped. I now know that there are "long nose" and "short nose" water pumps for the Austin 1500 engine. My Nash Metropolitan takes a "short nose" so the new water pump I had purchased has just become an expensive paperweight unless someone on this forum needs one.

Thanks,
