Hi gents, I've been around the forums for a while but am really just lurker.

My GT6 has a long and spotty history of accidents, rusting in fields, storage, shoddy rebuilds, etc.

so now I'm doing it the "right way" I guess.

After being in storage for 10 years, i'm doing a full teardown and rebuild. Not going for "show quality," actually I want it as a weekend driver and occasional autocross/track car - so it will have some "updates" to the suspension and drivetrain, but should look more or less original on the outside when complete.

Anyhow, here are a few pics of it coming out of storage (with the silver panels off my parts car) and to its new home. The tub is coming off next week probably to start to switch everything onto a straight (and sandblasted/rust-free) frame.

as you can see, alot of the car is fiberglass at this point - including most of the floors and rear panels....

btw, I am projecting about 2 years to get it back on the road, and a total budget of about $10k to make it able to do some basic track/autocross duty. We'll see.

I have a couple other projects too:

My heavily-modified 2000 Maxima (daily driver) with about every bolt-on suspension, brake, and engine upgrade available aside from forced induction. runs at the track occasionally and E-prepared autocross:

And my beater/cargo-hauler/money-pit 1990 Cherokee. It's alot like a Triumph: noisy, uncomfortable, constantly needing repair, and a hellovalot of fun. Jeep parts are alot cheaper than GT6 parts though

Welcome to the monkey house, Irish.
That's a '68, isn't it?
I'm most of the way through a frame off on a '67 Mk.I. See my thread entitled "Inertia, Ennui" in the Triumph forum for the gory details.
It's good to see another GT6 owner on here. I've got a lot of pictures of various stages of my resto, so feel free to ask any questions you may need answered. I'll try my best to help. If I don't already have a picture, I'll get one.
Once again, welcome.
Jeff

Welcome - love those GT6's!!

Welcome in from th' cold, Irish!

Don't you guys go tellin' anybody, but: if I hadn't found my first MGB for $200 less than a GT6 nearby, I'd be a 'rumphy now. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Hi Irish,
Small world, I had a ’68 GT6 in the mid 80’s when I worked at the Burke post office. There used to be some great driving roads out there. Creekside windy roads with a complete canopy of tree cover. In the fall it was magical. Looking at Google Earth, it looks pretty built up now. Anyway, welcome aboard!

actually, there are still miles and miles of awesome country/woods roads in Clifton and Fairfax Station (just a few blocks from me), and their regulations there stop ANY development or road expansions....You can drive all the way out to Prince William County without hitting a stoplight or a multiple-lane road. Just gotta look out for deer!

Irish,

There's a fellow GT6 owner down in Charlottesville. He'll probably chime in here...or look around him on the site.

thanks, I'll keep my eyes open. Just had a new baby, so the GT6 project is soon to slow to a crawl i'm sure /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

btw, I do alot of work with a Miata buddy who runs somewhere near 240 whp supercharged in his '94! keeps me motivated to make the GT6 whoop him in autocross /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Lovely cars, those GT6's
I always liked them. Not only did I have many friends with them, and other TRs back when I was a kid in Falls Church, but the local racing team Group 44 had one. One of the mechanics there, Lanky Foushee also hade one with a TR6 engine. He squashed the front one time also (on Shreve Rd.)
Now I am relinquished to helping a colleague with his completely rusted 67 which will probably never get finished.
I guess fiberglass is good in exterior panels and not so good in interior panels!
Best of luck getting it going, but (someone might correct me here) don't bet on it being faster than a high dollar miata. We're talking very old technology here.

Donn, do you know if Lanky is still around? I haven't talked to him in years. Be prepared to sit awhile if you engage him in conversation!
I think my '67 will give any Miata a good run for the money.
Jeff
