Hey all, I've been lurking for a little bit trying to gleem as much info about these little beasts. I got a 73 Midget in trade for an 84 GTI. It has the usual rust at the bottom of the A-pillar/rocker, truck rot, but other than that, it's in very good condition, but it helps that it had been sitting in a garage for the last 20+ years.

I'd like to get the little beastie back on the road and would like some insight, tips, etc of where to start first, what to look for, etc. I know the brake lines will need to be replaced just for safety. Will I need to tear the engine down to replace seals, bearings, etc? Or I guess I won't know until I get it running?

Also need to replace a few items that are missing like a taillight and front turn signal, and ignition switch/lock - it had been broken to move the car... :-{ Anyway, thanks in advance!

Tim-Welcome! You've got a good group of folks here in the forum to help you figure and source things out. They've helped me out a lot.

What do you plan on doing with the car?
 
I plan on keeping it as stock as possible for now. I'd think that would be the least expensive route. My ultimate goal is to make it a Vintage racer for the Pittsburgh Grand Prix if I can get my SCCA racing license one day.
