i need a new second gear....
my budget is less than $100..
anyone have an extra gear to
part with or a good resource?.........zimmy

Depends on how soon you need it. I have a whole transmission I want to sell. All the gears are good in it including a brand new laygear. I removed it to do the 5 speed conversion, but I will hang on to it until I see that everything works out ok

Give me the numbers off the laygear and second gear. I may have a source for used parts.

22G100- layshaft.... 22G1121-2nd gear
is wear on the laygear a big deal?
mine has wear but im still not exactly
sure how it all works, so.....
kim,i already have a new 1st gear, and everything
for the rebuild, bearings, etc.....
i really just need the 2nd gear and possibly
the laygear if u wanna part out your tranny....
 
No, just wanted to be sure they fit, I had one box with an oddball laygear. Check the layshaft and bearings for wear, usually the laygear breaks teeth before it really wears too much. I'll let you know what I find.
 
Always a good idea to just put in a new layshaft and bearings, Jimmy... it's a PITA to have to do it all again, IYSWIM. If the shaft shows ANY wear, put in a new one. Visual evidence of galling, or the "fingernail" check will tell. Drag a fingernail down the length of the shaft in four equidistant lines (think diameter quadrants)... if you feel a "hitch" ANYPLACE along the shaft it's time to replace it.

the layshaft appears fine and i have new bearings
already.....my laygear has wear between the teeth
but none are broken....this tranny rebuild is starting
to get expensive! ; 0
guess ill REALLY enjoy it if i ever get done though ; )
still cheaper than a new car, and 3 times as cool!
 
I think I spent about 350 on my tranny rebuild. But I needed some gears as well. That's when it really starts to add up. Otherwise, you can do bearings, seals, and synchros for around $125.

Check that part #, 22G1121 is 3rd, 22G1120 is 2nd. Let me know which you need.

I know that but didn't want ya to overlook the shaft. A kinda "forest/trees" thing. You covered it.
