Did some shopping this weekend and found a Matchbox set that has a Mini panel wagon AND an E-type roadster in the same set! Of course I got one! LoL Be on the lookout for yours when you're out there shopping!

feh... need to replace the kitchen stove now. Bottom oven element BLEW out the night of the neighbor's house fire, the largest top burner went last eve as 'smits was renderin' down th' last of th' turkey wot'd been IN the oven when it expired.

Can't afford even THOSE cars ATM. :wall:

Hey Doc, is it electric?? Can't you just replace the elements??

Top one, $40, oven $60... the existing one has been in place since 1980 and looks like an old rusted Italian car. I found a newer used unit for $125, it even matches the cabinetry color I've put in. We're in "church mouse" mode down here ATM, just keepin' up with th' monthlys has become an issue. This is NOT a good time for us to toss "good money after bad". The new-used one will serve for a few years more, I'm sure. Then it'll be stainless for replacement.

Our 20 year old GE Monogram double oven took a cr@p last year. It is an all electronic oven and the interface between the keyboard and the oven control board stopped working. Calls to the dealer and other service "professionals" told me "it can't be fixed" and to "replace it"
I'm happy to report that it has been working flawlessly all year since I "MacGyvered" it with a 32 pin connector, some wire, and my trusty soldering iron.
I'm a member of the same club doc :eeek:

YAY!!! Just go in and FIX th' thing! Done that repeatedly on th' microzap oven here. Lightning. Bridged built-in film PC "fuses" and replaced blown caps... Now we unplug th' beastly thing if not in use.

I went to a local "used appliance" place and told th' owner I wanted the lowest of the low-tech units they had... NO digital controls. Just need to make heat to COOK, not launch th' shuttle. The "Deluxe" one I settled on does have an analog clock in th' control panel but it ain't tied into th' KNOBS for cookin' stuff.

I have found numerous bargins to be had at our local Habitat for Humanity warehouse store. Gobs and gobs of tile, lights, doors, hardware on and on and on...
I used to work for a very upscale architectural hardware manufacturer; when they closed the place up and moved back to Germany, they donated over $100K of perfect bath accessories and door hardware. It's a great resourse even for ovens and cooktops if you have one in the Tampa area.

I may need to go sniffin'!!! They just did a multi-house project a couple blocks from us.

I'll "recycle" about anything wot comes within arms' reach. It amazes me what peeps throw away.

You preachin to a long time dumpster diver. Amazing what gets thrown away.

So sorry Peter. You can return to your regularly scheduled thread as soon as we get these problems fixed :jester:

Peter..nice find...I've likewise gravitated to model collecting....keeps me happy and funds available for other needs...

Doc...I've also been in major fixit mode....managed to salvage several appliances and yard tools that broke around here this year...problem is now I figure they'll all end up needing replacement at the same time

BTW: I'm a certified shade tree mechanic...if a coat hanger or duct tape won't work it ain't fixable....may also have something to do with why my LBC's are never picked for the calendar!!! :hammer:

Oh yea a master thread highjacker as well..see good as new!!
