No, it was a video clip from "Gran Turismo 5" (ie: "GT5") on a playstation

Well it seems pointless to me and only a measure of the computer skills of whoever assembled the lap. Realism is not the same as reality.

How about Pole Position? Big step up in the early 80s. Sort of. There was one in a Sheraton we used to stay at near Disneyland. Pretty sure it took $.50/game and we played it far too much

Then the latest - iRacing. Steve's right, realism isn't real but the iRacing guys have really worked hard to make it more of a simulation than a game. I've driven F1 "games" that I easily adapted to; the F1 car in iRacing is hard. Very hard. The Miata racing is fun, challenging, and can be difficult at times too.

iRacing has remodeled the tire simulation to be more (hopefully) realistic. They concentrate on using lidar/laser-scanning to reproduce extremely accurate maps of the tracks and pavement surfaces. Professional drivers claim to be able to feel the bumps they're used to...and it keeps getting better.

My favorite had been Indy cars until they did a big update to the system this summer. Along with the new tire simulation they also introduced their first open-cockpit prototype car, and the Ford GT. Competition with those two cars are combined with Corvettes to make a 3-car prototype/GT combo. It's interesting.
