VTR 2004 pictures

Eric, thanks for posting the great VTR pics. That was a great show and a perfect day, weather-wise. Again, thanks to the hard-working folks at the Richmond VTR for hosting the show.

Cheers!

Love the pictures, Eric. TWO supercharged TR6's! I thought my "trips" were exotic. Too bad the PI setup is not readily available on this side of the pond.

Simon,

Great pictures, loved the Italia!
Lots of popups on that website, though.

Popups? what popups?

You guys need to dump Internet Explorer for Mozilla Firefox! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also noticed the WW II Spitfire aircraft. I didn't think there was any of those flyable in the U.S. (but that one looks like a flier to me). Learn something new every day!
Great pictures.

I especially liked all the "baby" spitfires gathered around the "momma" spitfire.

I think there are a few here in the states. Theres a guy in Colorado that I believe owns one, and I think it flies out of Arizona. There is possibly another in Florida, they are both mark IX's I think. This is the registry list I used to use but I believe it's not currently up to date (two years old maybe?), but it's a nice reference that goes by known to exist airframe numbers. Sadly, quite a few of them have crashed in recent years, killing their owners or pilots.

Hey, you wouldn't happen to own and/or fly an Aeronca would you? I'm a pilot wanna-be and in awe of anyone who owns a plane or has a pilots license. A friend of mine that I work with has a Citabria, and we're trying to get a date worked out for him to take me up.

According to this site Spitfire Society there are 15 flying Spits in the U.S.A. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif One's right near me in Suffolk, VA - I have to go check that out!

I was at the Richmond VTR when that Spitfire pilot flew the plane into the show. Man, I'll tell you, it made an awesome, beautiful noise!

Knowing the history of the plane and engine, and what it accomplished at the hands of the brave RAF pilots, makes it most special to me.

My wife and one of her girlfriends were there with me, they simply remarked that the Supermarine Spit engine was "too loud".

Some folks just don't . . . oh well!

Man, do I know what you mean. Every year I try to go to the liberation of Reading PA memorial airshow weekend. A few years ago I was there and my uncle and I were standing around looking at Nervous Energy V, a D model Mustang. The pilot and ground crew guy came up and asked us to take a few steps back as they were going to be firing her up so that they could preflight it and get ready for their display. We were standing maybe 15 or 20 feet away when they kicked that big Merlin over, what an incredible and beautiful sound.

There is a CD out that has nothing but aircraft engine sounds on it, Merlins, German DB's and BMW's, you name it. My wife thought I was crazy for wanting to listen to something like that!

Think this might have been posted on this site a while ago, but Germaine to the conversation. Allen DeCaderna (SP?) host of Legends in a neat video.

Really cool!
