I can't imagine 245 Hp in a Mini. I think I have close to 100 and it flies. 245hp???? Would love to see what it is like.

Carl - what modifications did you do to get 100 + hp?

Thanks

Bruce

Simple, kind of... Put the engine from a Geo Metro (3-cylinder turbo engine) into it, along with the 5-speed manual transmission that goes along with the engine.

It's a 1969 Mk 3 Mini, a guy in Saskatchewan did the conversion prior to Carl's purchase. How well does it fit? You should see what the front engine mount looks like... a very custom job!

I've seen the car before, so I'm qualified to basically answer. And you'll see a picture of it BCF Members Rides in the Mini album, the orange pumpkin Mini!

The April 2004 Grass Roots Motorsports has an article about the VTEC Mini. Looks like a hoot!

See Sherlock's reply, plus it's chipped.

A turbo 3 banger in Mini would be excellent fun. I'd considered one for a Locost (hooks up to Samauri tranny).

Yup! Look for any early Chevy Sprint Turbo / Pontiac Firefly Turbo...
Reliable, 'modern' and oodles of fun!

about 2 years ago, https://www.whifbitz.co.uk was doing this, they were taking Minis and installing Civic Si engines and trannys, 160hp or higher depending on trim. i couldn't find any stateside shops that were doing this, and Whifbitz had apparently done quite a few and i was told had quite a history with Mini restorations, and i was scheming to buy one from them and have it imported, alas my father who for all intents and purposes was my "bank" at the time, refused to back such an endeavor, lol...

in any event, after checking their website again just now, it appears like they have fully devoted themselves to Japanese->UK imports. oh well.

thanks for that link, the Mini w/ Civic engine transplant is #1 on my list for project cars in the near future, but i couldn't find anyone stateside with experience in this, so it looks like i'll be talking to GoMini regarding that!

you and me both, but have you seen the mid engined one?
i found it while looking for info on the car i hope to build. i figure this is the engine/drivetrain i want for it (racetec.net)/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
