OK! I was going to make a "Vroom, Vroom" post last night, but it died when I pulled out my timing light. (I must have scared it).
This isn't really that big of an event since the motor/tranny came out of the Midget that I've been driving for years. However, getting the Ugly Bug on the road is over due. I want to get some miles on it and get it setup how I like it before doing the body work.

So tonight the Ugly Bug started and moved under its own power (donated by the Midget) since 1974 and almost 50 years since it came off the production line.

So why did it die last night ... dead electric fuel pump. It was a brand new Carter (it ran for about 60 seconds). I didn't do the timing tonight, but in the next few days I'll take care of: timing, readjust/rebleed brakes, install some Ugly seats, hook up the speedo, install seatbelts, and maybe some temporary interior panels to help hold the noise down.

Oh... and my new clutch has some serious grab. Combine that with a different MC/slave arrangement and you get wheel spin!

LOL, wheeeeeeeee.

Good for you man! Post some pix when you get a chance.

My project seems slower than slow. I'll catch a spurt and get some stuff done, then it sits awhile.

But grabbing some seat time seems like a great idea!

Yes!
Is this the one you're bringing to the Ozarks?

I'll do pictures or video in a few days. And yes this is the one I'm taking to the Ozarks so I better get busy shaking the bugs out of it.

Woohoo! Another one (sorta) on the road.

I feel your pain, John. Once I thought that I'd have the Tunebug done for our local show in mid June. Now I'm just hoping to have it running before winter, or at least before next spring...

I'm a whole year behind schedule! But, in my defense, I did have a shelf fall and crush the Ugly Bug and dent up the Midget. It was several months before I could think about fixing the Midget (then a month to fix it). And then about another 6 months before I could bring myself to start on the Ugly Bug. Then include all the things that "happen" in life and I do not feel too bad about being a year behind. After all, it is just a hobby to enrich my life not a job or important charity work.

Serious wheel spin in a Spridget??? What and no broken axles??

I didn't say "serious", but it was rather comical at first.

A suggestion, if I may..

Run an external ground wire from the fuel pump body, past any rubber, isolating brackets, or bolts to a good body/chassis ground...

I also found this out with a Bendix, Facet, Carter pump.... short life without a good ground. I thought it was getting a good ground from the mounting bolts, but learned a better ground is always good.

Thanks, I had an separate ground running to a 1/4" bolt that I welded directly to clean metal. I think I just got a bad pump.
