Visor replacement

Have run into an odd problem. A while back I had purchased from Vicky Brit some new visors and what I thought were the proper new replacement brackets. I see from the catalog that there are two different brackets. Since my B is a 1976, I bought the brackets for the 68-76 (prior to GHN-5-41000, which is where the id for the B falls) and all the appropriate washers and nuts. I find, however, that there is now way to even get the nut started (length of threaded portion that remains out is too short) let alone with washers used as well.
My question is, since I don't really know if the windshield frame is original or a replacement, are the 76-80 brackets shorter as allow the threaded portion to extend farther? I'm about ready to recess the inside to allow greater extension of the threaded portion which seems like the only solution if the brackets are not of different heights.

We ran into this problem on the MG Warrior project, the brackets look the same but are really somewhat different. On the early style the side where the nut goes is recessed quite a bit less than the later brackets. You'll have to match up the correct bracket with the visor rods you have. It will be a lot easier to just get the right visors rather than try to change the brackets, too much chance of cracking the glass from a misguided drill bit or rivet when removing the old ones.
