Virtual Rally!

Those of you who have been around for a while know about the "Virtual Rally" game I wrote for forum members to play (and win cheesy prizes). When I upgraded the forum software several months ago, unfortunately, the VR game would no longer work with the new forum software. <span style="color: #3366FF">The good news, is, I'm re-writing the VR game so that it will work with the new forum.</span> <span style="color: #CC0000">The bad news is, I'm rewriting the VR software so that it will work with the new forum.</span>

What I mean is, I am in the process of re-writing the VR game, but it is turning out to be more difficult and involved than I thought. Essentially, I'm having to almost re-write the game from scratch, so it may take a while before it is ready for prime time.

Basil,

While I am NO computer expert, would it have been possible to leave the rally software alone and have it run else where with/through a link from BCF? Or was the rally software written for the previous forum software and not hostable elsewhere???

All that aside, Thank You. I still suffer from rally withdrawal.

Well, yes and no. It would have been possible to make some modifications to how it interfaces with the forum database and have it run separately from the forum, but I want it to be integrated as part of the forum and look like just another forum page.

You're just too good to us
Thank you, thank you, thank you

Thanks for the extra effort, Basil! I look forward to the re-introduction of the VR with great anticipation! GREAT FUN!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I made pretty good progress yesterday and am continuing today. This new forum software uses "Smarty Templates" which basically means, for every individual page I used to have in the old game, I have to write 3 separate files to work with the Smarty Template format that the new forum software uses: Each page requires a template (.tmp), and script file (.inc) and a language file (.php), thus I am having to pretty much re-write the entire game from scratch if I want it to interface nicely with the forum.

Basil

PS: The prize for the next game is going to be your choice of British car prints from member Cliff Cramp (check out his stuff in our "Member Art" section - he is really good!

That's a prize definitly to strive for!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Thanks Emperor!!

UPDATE: I now have the basic game working. All that remains is to finish the bribe routines and then re-do the "Rally Standings" feature.

Re: RE: Virtual Rally!

I am almost done with the Virtual Rally re-write, but I'm burned out so am putting it on hold for a day or so. Been at it solidly for most of my free time for the entire weekend, but still have a few bugs to track down. Be patient - we're almost there!

Wonder how many times you can repeat it in one message? hehehe

Re: RE: Virtual Rally!

Those are actually only two smilies. The guy with the utensils, and each side is just one smilie though a complicated one. I thought it appropriate since I really enjoy the rallies. Even if I don’t win, but I do like winning too.
