Ok, the 69 Sprite I bought was apparently imported from the phillipines as the story from the PO goes. I have the VIN #HAN9U85231G which is on the title and the plate in the engine bay. The VIN # on the drivers side VIN plate reads HUN011071P. All the VIN websites and information I've found doesn't tell what the U as a second letter means or what the P means(which I suppose is for phillipines). Any knowledge about this would be welcome. I'd also like to find info on how many of these cars were sentplaces other than the US and Canada? Thanks

By drivers side I do mean the one in the door jam. I'm not familiar with how they exported the cars at all. I did look at a few Australia club sites and didn't find any VIN's similar to this one. It is left hand drive. When A car is imported into the US do they reassign a second VIN#?

From the Horler book (Original Sprite & Midget, by Terry Horler, the bible for Spridget originality issues):
VIN (also called the Commission Number) = HAN9U85231G
HAN9 = Sprite MkIV
U = North America (replaced the L that used to be there previously)
85231 = made between Jan and October of 69. Last HAN9 was 85286, so this is a very late MkIV
G = assembled at Abington
The HUN011071P is a body number, used in the manufacturing process and is not related to the VIN at all, although it looks similar.
A picture of the various VIN plates would be helpful as well for clarification. Besides, we like pictures /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif (a running joke around here, sorry...)
