Video card help needed

I have an Acer Aspire 5253 and I need to know if my VGA port supports TV S/video with an RCA jack adapter. I can't find any info and I don't have the manual. Does anyone here know offhand if it will or where to look online for an answer? I can't find anything useful.

Apples an' oranges, Billy. S-video won't be good (if even POSSIBLE) from an RCA output. Has the card an S-vid output jack? If so and you use an RCA "adapter" dongle, you reduce the signal to lowest common denominator.

Here what the adapter people say. I have no idea what they are talking about. All I know is my digital TV works as a monitor w/ vga to vga but it doesn't work with this adapter to the rca jacks. I have an old tv RCA tube TV that I'd like to use as a monitor for my laptop. I haven't tried it on the old tv yet but I figured it should work on the flat screen HDTV I have here in the house.

Features:
1.Standard Sub-D VGA Input.
2.It will work with laptops and desktops with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector.
3.VGA connector on one end and both RCA jack Video (TV) out and S-Video out connectors on the other end.
4.Connector: D-Sub high density 15 pin male to S-Video mini din 4 pin female and RCA jack.
5.Color:Black

Package Includes:
1 x VGA to TV S-Video 3 RCA AV Adapter Cable for Computer

Note:Before place the bid, please be sure to check the manual of your system to make sure the Video Card of your system supports TV (RCA/S-Video) output through VGA port. Not every Video card will work with this adaptor. Only certain Video cards which have TV Output function built into VGA port will work through this adaptor.

I think TVs are considered legacy at this point. What I'd do is find out what video chip is in the laptop and go to that vendor's site and look for a driver. Look in device manager under video or graphics to see. Nvidia, ATI, AMD, intel. I only saw a quick start manual for the 5253 on the Acer site but I didn't really dig.

How do I do that? I am completely lost when it comes to stuff like this.

On Win7: Start>control panel>system. From there choose device manager, you'll see a list of devices, click on display adapters and that will show you the make and model. Let us know what it is.

Does this look like it? If so, I think I found an updated driver. I'm installing it now. If you don't hear back, you know what happened.

This isn;t looking good, seems I may have gotten more than I bargained for.

I found something inside that will update but it says I'm as current as I can be. Dated 2010 though...

I think this is it: AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics

Well, I did a little snooping and don't really have an answer. Holding the Fn key and pressing F5 will toggle the different monitors on the computer. It has been a long time since I had an AMD graphics card. So I don't know if using a VGA to RCA adapter will do anything for you.

I can get it to connect to another monitor, however it's VGA to VGA. I can't get the vga/rca adapter to work on the digital TV. I guess I need to see if the old one I plan to use will work. I just figured if it would work on one it would on the other.

Is this a laptop or a tower. I assume you don't have any HDMI connections on the computer?

Uncle Jed: "Jethro, did you hear what Mrs. Hathaway said?"
Jethro: "Yes sir, every word of it."
Uncle Jed: "Jethro, did you understand what Mrs Hathaway said?"
Jethro: " No sir, not one word of it."

The RCA jacks are...composite? Can't recall the term exactly.
You can't go from downgrade to upgrade on cabling, and on those cables, four feet you run into noise levels to make the picture unusable.
I have an HDMI ported HD flatscreen someone gave me. I didn't even know for two years it was either..always used the coax.
I am trying to run computer output to TV so the old train (British) steam YouTubes can be seen.
I found out I need a much better video card (not driver) with either an HDMI port (preferred) or a..DVI? port, bigger than HDMI.
Updated drivers won't work, and long runs of cabling on RCA ended cables won't work.
That's what I was told very recently.

Here ya go ... plug one of these into your Acer, the video is transmitted wirelessly to the VGA port of your TV:

Voila!

By the way, you can download the Aspire 5253 owner's manual here:

https://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

Shows you also have an HDMI port as well as the VGA port.

Thanks Tom, might get that for the inside one. Seems my FreeV (free TV) is crap, it has picture shake. It's not bad but bad enough. I'm trying to avoid buying a TV for the studio; something I really don't need. If my $2.69 adapter would have worked I would have lived with it but it's not worth spending any money to connect to my FreeV. Looks like I either need to watch what I want to watch inside (which I would hate to do) or buy a TV (which I really can't justify right now).
