After lots of surprises and detours (not to mention headaches and stupid mistakes), I'm happy to present the engine of my 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190b - running at last! And running pretty well, if I do say so myself.

Car hobbled off the delivery truck back in November, gasping and sputtering. Just about breathed its last coming down the driveway.

Thanks to all the BCF members who have helped along the way. Without you, I'd probably never have got this far (or heard this great little four cylinder engine running again).

Nothing special to you racing guys - but I sure feel great to be able to share this sound:

Thanks all!
Tom

What scares me is that you were apparently able to get better help here in LBC land than on the MB forums!

But congratulations anyway!

sounds great! Congrats

Woohoo! Sounds good.

And a hard-won victory it was! It's always tough when there's more than one thing wrong, but you hung in there and eventually figured it out. Congrats!! :triumphant:

Thanks gents. Lots of things I learn about LBCs apply to many of the pre-1970 cars. "transfer of knowledge"!

I hear what sounds like ~one~ loose valve in there Tom.

When does the road trip start?

When does the road trip start?

Trip was scheduled for this spring, but getting the car roadworthy is taking longer than I thought. Now likely this fall.
Next up, some brake and suspension work. I'll post more details when I'm closer to a "go".
