When putting the spacer behind the Rack bracket I noted that the rack bracket was loose on the rack, The clamp part did not really clamp it tightly, in fact if wiggled it would click.

Bet that click has been there forever. so I am slowly sanding a bit off the top part of the bracket to make a tight fit. Can't have clicks you know. Course you could never hear it over the engine.
 
Was there any rubber in the mount on these cars?
 
Not that I remember, steel to alum. The drivers side fit just fine and now the other side does as well. Didn't take but maybe 10 min with a peice of sandpaper flat on the bench.
 
Hi Pat. One more strange thing down. I keep going and checking my parts and saying to my self, I wonder.......

Parts are now down to less than ten that came with the car. Things like headlight cans, axels, four hubs, windsheld wiper motor, fan motor. Waiting on other bits so I can install them as well.
 
I checked that when I had mine apart. apparently there was a gasket of sorts - more like a piece of paper bag. I ran a couple of turns of masking tape around the rack.
 
Hmm, was nothing there in either Rack when I took em apart. Must have detereated over the years. Does not seem to be an issue though now that I have a hand lapped fit, hehe.
 
All the racks used a paper gasket around them before they were clamped. Of course this paper usually just went away with a few rains. I use electrical tape nodays. It holds up in the rain.
