If I'm reading between your lines correctly, this photo might help. If it doesn't, tell me and I'll try again. When I replaced the seals (which was somewhere 15 to 20 years ago), I remember I purchased Spitfire seals and cut them off at the start of the vent glass - then trimmed the width down to what you see in the photo. This pretty much mimicked what had been there before.
