Valve Cover Question

Hi guys...
Sorry havent been on for a while... had a few dramas with work, some ppl havent heard of paying invoices, so my living has been rather 3rd world as of late /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Anyways...
My question is... is it rather straight forward and safe for the MG to take off the valve cover to clean it up and give it a spray?

Anything i should be careful of?
the head isnt spring loaded or something is it? :p

Thanks Guys

It's a real tough one as all the molecules of the air inside the cover go all over the place and your going to have to find replacement ones and they are really really tiny. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Pretty simple remove the 2 nuts and anything that's crossing the cyl head and it should come right off. You may want to replace the gasket that's under it while your at it. I would just paint the outside of the cover after a good degreasing, sanding and final wipe down with MEK to make sure it's clean as fish eyes will make you cry.

Just make sure the MOWOG trolls don't get loose. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I thought about being a clown, but heck...Everytime I pull a valve cover it seems, I'm doing it to take off the large shiny ribbed metal one, to put on an old dinged up yellow stock cover...

...AND the engine lift brackets. D'oh!

JEFF! Where ya been? Good to hear from you.

If you change the gasket, you can glue the new one down and let it set up overnight and then install the cover - advice I got some time ago - and it will stay in place nicely rather than moving around and pinching when you go to put the cover on.

Good advice on the valve cover gasket. What I usually do is use Ultra Blue or Ultra black, glue the gasket to the valve cover, and set it in a nice clean rag and lay something like a flywheel on top for a while to put some pressure on it while it sets up.

LOL Jeff - Yeah, done that plenty of times!
