what is more common on the 67 tr4a... .012 or.015 i've heard both and can't find my manual, so I don't know what it says.
 
It's supposed to be .010 cold.

.010 is correct, however I set them at .012 -- the notion is to error on the side of having them a bit loose than risk getting one (esp and exhaust valve) too tight. Either way, they will probably make a bit of noise.
 
IMO, the .010" already has a bit of margin built into it; the engine will run fine at .008". So I set mine to .010".

Assuming you've got a stock camshaft, of course. Many aftermarket cams call for more clearance.
 
One thing to consider when you are setting the valve lash (I use 10. Cold) is that the tappets with wear become dished and when you place the feeler gauge in you bridge the dish in the tappet and get an untrue setting. This is usually a problem when you trying to get a noisy lifter quite. The danger is that people sometimes guess at what the setting is to allow for the dish and it up getting it too tight. So if that is what the problem is, the answer is to rebuild the rocker shaft. It is not that hard to do and will make a big difference in performance and noise.
