MGC Value of a 68 MGC roadster?

Bruce,

I will keep you informed. The owner is on vacation this week but he said he will be contacting his brother such that he can get the key for the garage in which the car is stored. btw, I'm near Pittsburgh PA and the car is stored in Johnstown, PA

Bugeye,

The car I own is a Mitsubishi Starion or more commonly called the Chrysler Conquest. There are such things as rare japanese cars as well, even in the 80s.

Kev,
Sills and rockers are no big deal. It's the floor that is tough. Since there are no replacements for this, you at the mercy of the guy building them for you. My opinion is "See Rust, RUN!!!!" I was very fortunate that my C was cancer free when I found it. Now living in AZ, there are no worries. There was a great article a while back in the now defunct MG World. The guy restored a CGT and had to rebuild most of the pan. It was a huge strain on the budget.

Really? I would think that the floor is identical to the B cars? You can't order replacement pans for the B cars?

It is a convertible up here in PA, thus I would put money on the floors being rotted to heck.

No the floors are very definitely different, instead of being flat they are flat (at B height) in the footwells and then they slope up about 2 inches and go flat again in line with the jacking points. Also the pressings are all different, particularly in the footwell area.

As a result of this the seats are also different, the frames are shallower than on a B

This is all due to the different front suspension which is torsion bars on the C instead of coil springs. The Underside of this area is also quite different with huge triangular brackets mounted under the floors to brace them to take the torsion bar end brackets.

I believe there are repair panels available for some of these areas but the original tooling for the C was scrapped years ago

regards

Tom

The slope in the center of the MGC floor that Tom mentioned is to give space under the floor for the torsion bar front suspension. Bromsgrove in England does make replacement floor panels for the front half only. I just spent $10K on my 68 MGC/GT in bodywork alone. Many panels were custom made for my car, although the outer body panels except for the hood/bonnet are common to the MGB. Expect to spend 3-4 times as much for MGC parts compared to comparable MGB. BTW, my panel guy made some extra MGC body panels, knowing they are not available. Alot could be written about the MGC, most important points have been covered in the more popular MGB/MGC books.

Ten Grand eh? I would have said you got off relatively lightly compared to some.

My C GT cost me considerably more than that, but admittedly it was a project I should never have taken on as not only were the sills (outers, verticals castle rails and front of the inner step panels....) and floors rotten but the bulkhead was so rotten that I had to graft in one from a donor car (thankfully this is one area where the C is the same as the B) and rebuild most of the unique front inner wing structure and replace the passenger's side rear wing (complete, not half wing). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Took 12.5 years (the mechanicals were every bit as bad but were thankfully complete) but I got there in the end and the end result is pretty stunning considering what I started with:

You never recoup your costs from this sort of exercise but the end result has plenty of other benefits.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

sorry to chime in late...but if you're interested there is a C near me at a local shop I came across while looking for some parts for my B. It's pretty much disassembled, but he has a lot of new parts for it, it comes with an OD tranny and the motor at least turns freely. I have no idea what he wants for it, but he's been very reasonable with me. It's located near Albany, NY. If you want his info email me and I'll send it to you.
