value - BJ8 frame, engine, trans w/ title?

Thought this one might draw some opinions. I'm not curent with 3000 prices.

We have a BJ8 frame, engine, and trans (and the title) that was salvaged from a car that perished in a garage fire. All are in good condition, i.e., not charred or rusty, but suitable as the basis for a ground-up restoration. No carbs on the engine, but I think the exhaust manifold is there. Everything has been stored indoors.

We're cleaning the shop and I might have a buyer - my gut says $1000... but truthfully I have no clue.

Opinions, please.

If the engine were complete, (carbs, intake, exhaust, starter, radiator) and the transmission is correct for the car, (check with BMHIT) with engine number and transmission number matching the chassis number, is the gas tank in the car?? Is there any rust showing on the frame? All this adds to the price. But just as is, where is, I'd expect your probably okay on the price.

I would tend to think closer to 3K if you think what just a rust free frame alone goes for and if the engine is complete and not frozen, that is worth some pretty bucks too. Ask high and you can always bargain down.

Probably worth a few bucks more if it's a Phase II BJ8, as these are the 3000s that still seem to be bringing in the big dollars.

I agree . Worth a lot more than 1k. But if you can make money at 1k and you are satisfied with that amount it would be a greaat deal for someone that loves the hobby. I would rather see parts go reasonable to guys that love the hobby than some of the stuff i see at car shows where greed has taken over the hobby. Besides my Healey I have a 55 chevy and the prices people want for parts is crazy. I can remember selling complete good cars for $300.00 now they want $500 for a door that needs work or a old seat that needs everything. I also paid around $500 for a healey trunk lid and still ended up welding patches and repairing dings on it . Kinda leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Sorry about the rant.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out it is a '66 Phase II.

When I dug out the title, I also found 2 aluminum tags that were salvaged, too. One is the body tag.

It's starting to sound like it would be worth it to have the numbers certified as matching (is BMHIT the best?) and evaluate everything more closely.

Once we pull the trigger, is there a Healey-specific online group where this thing might best be advertised for sale?
