vacuum line routing

I am a new member with a 57 tr-3 it has a tr-4 motor and drivetrain, can anyone help me with routing the vaccumm advance line from the carbureter to the distributor?

There is a port on the bottom back side of the forward carb where the vacuum line attaches. The line runs under the radiator hose through a clamp that is attached to the thermostat housing then on to the distributor. The clamp at the thermo housing also holds the fuel line. Does this help or will you need photos?

Thanks for your help, I guess I couldnt see the port on the forward carb and did not know wether it was on the manifold or the bottom of the carb. I think I can find it without the pic.

Hi,
I have a tr-4 engine and su carbs, I looked for the vacuum port under the carb right by the manifold, the front carb has one hole in the area where the vacuum port should be and the rear carb has two holes on the bottom, the holes appear not to contain any junction for vacuum hose. Are these holes all active? I have trouble getting the engine idle at 550-660 rpm do you think these ports might be causing a vacuum leak and making the engine idle fast (1000rpm)?

Normally no, the extra holes aren't actually drilled to anything. The one hole that is drilled, will have threads in it for an adapter.

The vacuum advance normally doesn't get vacuum at idle, so most likely you won't have an idle problem even with the port open. But you could always stuff a wad of chewing gum or similar over the holes, to see if that makes a difference.

Also worth checking is the accuracy of your tach. Not at all unusual for originals to read high.
 
Had to go look to be sure; my front carbs have two holes as well (but only one is drilled and tapped for the advance port). Here's a shot of an older carb that happened to be laying near the bench.
 
Check to make sure that both butterflies are adjusted properly and closing at idle. If not, it can cause a fast idle.

I would think that your car should move along quite nicely with that TR4 drive train. Can you post any pictures to show us what you have?
 
Thanks for the response, I have some the day I bought it but it's on a car dolly. I will post a couple in a week or so, been too busy doing the hydraulics, it sat for 12 years.
