Ok 2 things.

1.How do you unclip the heat shield and where is it and....
2.how easy is it for the CAUTION to happen??
 
It's probably missing. Sounds like the heat sheild that it clips on to the starter motor. Its just a couple of spring clips with what looks like (and probably isn't) cardboard attached to it.

I think that the push rod is clipped to the fork so that it would take some force (if the clip was in shape and installed) or an attempt to actually pull it out for you to worry about it. Anyway, that's how it was on my TR10 which had the same generic instructions. I don't think that BL changed the instructions from model to model unless absolutely necessary.

I replaced the clutch while I had the engine and tranny out last year and if memory serves me correctly, Philman is correct.
 
Well, everything is in and the first bleed is done.
