TR2/3/3A Uprated pulley kit with uprated 6 blade water pump problems.

I have a triumph tr3a and I just bought an uprated "gold classic" 6 blade water pump from moss along with the 3/8 pulley kit. I also bought a woodruff key, but it doesn't seem to fit in the water pump. Anyone else have this problem? is there a different size I should buy? It definitely looks smaller than the old slot.

Can you tell how much too big it is?
Sometimes a few strokes of a fine file are needed to get a good fit. Lay the file on the bench and rub the key back and forth on the file. Keep checking the fit.
Also worth checking that there are no burrs in the key way.

I think the problem might be mixed up dimensions surrounding the key and keyways. I had a problem last year with a key and pump that were 5mm (maybe 3 mm) and a pulley with the oem 1/8.

I had the same problem and did what David said. Took a while to do. Also I'll be curious if you have a different problem. Others on the forum expressed this same symptom with the new up rated pump installed and that is a creaking noise at start up. Goes away after the engine warms up. I had all kinds of thoughts going through my head till I heard it was nothing to worry about.

Don't use the narrow key with the 1/8 cast iron pulley. There is no taper on the shaft and the little ridge on the shaft will not give you enough pinch against the pulley nut to keep the heavy cast iron pulley from wanting to turn ever so slightly on the shaft. The ever so slight wallow this will put in the pulley groove will keep you from removing the pulley next time.

Ah sorry I forget I have to check notify to get emails when I get responses. I figure no one had responded. Turns out a woodruff key was missing in the box, moss sent me a new one.
