Upgrading turn flasher unit?

Is it OK to swap out the old thermal-sensitive turn lamp flasher unit for a modern voltage-independant type?

I have to admit to being a fan of upgrading the electrics in my '71 BGT (as and when they fail) to modern, hopefully more reliable equivalents.

On a side note, I'm also planning on rewiring the original foot main beam dip switch into the steering column multiswitcher.

My Mini is old enough that it doesn't have an emergency flasher unit, only the turn signal flasher. I installed an aftermarket, 3-pin, solid-state one from Advance after my second Lucas unit failed. I've been very happy with the swap (so far).

I replaced mine with one from Advance Auto Parts and it works fine. It's round but the same clip will hold it in place with a slight modification.

I replaed mine using a Tridon. It works great! it even overcomes poor grounds so that all bulbs flash like they should,

Yup - replaced the old thermal unit with a voltage-independant Narva unit. Indicators are flashing in perfect harmony now!

Modified the mounting bracket (basically bent it out a little using needlenosed pliers).

Am v. happy - highly recommended this simple, cheap mod (if you're not a concours type!).
